Jersey Boys: Opening Night
By Broadway Live INSIDER - Michael J. Miller
JERSEY BOYS, the most requested show on the Opera House's annual Broadway Live audience survey for many years, finally made its way to Lexington last night, and boy was it ever worth the wait!
Throughout the 10 year Broadway run and multiple international tours, JERSEY BOYS has been exclusively produced by Dodger Properties. That's evident in this entertaining engagement. Translation? If you saw it on Broadway or in Vegas or on tour in a larger city, you're guaranteed the same high-quality experience here. Dodgers painstakingly oversees all aspects of everything JERSEY BOYS — from casting to creative design, to performance execution.
In the course of over ten years on Broadway and on the road there have been over one hundred young men who have portrayed the four boys in the band. I can't imagine a better foursome than this. Jonny Wexler, Tommaso Antico, Corey Greenam, and Chris Stevens excel as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons along with an incredibly hard-working ensemble who embody dozens of supporting charac
ters with chameleon-like ease.
The creative elements and direction are also spot-on. Des McAnuff's adept staging provides cinematic flow with support from a large video screen overhead that helps provide context for the evolving settings. The nonstop parade of costumes and in-sync choreography only add to the glorious spectacle.
JERSEY BOYS is an enormously entertaining, rich, and truly joyous journey. Savor every second of it, Lexington. It's finally here and everything you've hoped for.
