CAPACITY CROWDS WELCOME BROADWAY BACK TO LEXINGTON WITH THE NATIONAL TOUR OF ROALD DAHL’S CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
LEXINGTON, KY (November 15, 2021) – After an 18 month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, audiences left the Lexington Opera House on a song and dance-filled sugar high as the Broadway Live series opened up this past weekend to nearly sold-out crowds at each performance of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Presented by CHI Saint Joseph Health and Toyota Kentucky, the national tour played at The Lexington Opera House November 12 – 14 for five performances.
Broadway Live also welcomed 250 underserved youth from the Lexington community as part of the Broadway Buddies educational program. In advance of the show, the 2021-22 Buddies attended a workshop to learn about the history of the theatre, theatre etiquette and information about the production. Now in its 9th year, the Broadway Buddies program is supported by The Opera House Fund, Toyota Kentucky,White, Greer, Maggard Orthodontics and Broadway Live patrons. In addition, UK Opera Theater graduate and Lexington Theatre Company alumni Audrey Belle Adams made her Broadway touring debut as Mrs. Gloop.
“Season ticket sales for Broadway Live have reached a record high while we continue to follow CDC, state and local guidelines to provide a safe environment for our patrons, staff and performers. What a joy it is to see our audiences return for Broadway Live at the Opera House!” said Luanne Franklin, Central Bank Center’s Director of Performing Arts.
