Broadway Live’s 2013 BROADWAY BUDDIES PROGRAM
To Return with Broadway Live’s CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Backstage
LEXINGTON, KY (January 24, 2013) -- The new charitable arts and education program launched last year to introduce musical theatre to underserved youth in Lexington and surrounding counties will return for a 2nd season through Broadway Live at the Opera House on January 31st at the opening night performance of Catch Me If You Can.
“Broadway Buddies is a program designed to expose young audiences, who otherwise might not have the opportunity, to the art and magic of professional live theatre,” explained Opera House Program Director Luanne Franklin. “Bringing youth to the Opera House helps to fulfill a long-term goal of Broadway Live,” explained Franklin. “Broadway Live subscribers and corporate sponsors were invited to purchase or donate additional tickets for the cause. We are pleased to announce that we will be offering the second Broadway Buddies theatre experience to 45 high school students and chaperones for Catch Me If You Can on Thursday, January 31st!”
Among the local agencies to be represented in this year’s program are: Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children, Common Good Community Development Corp and Fayette County Schools’ Family Care Center.
Catch Me If You Can, the third show on the 2012-13 Broadway Live season, is based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it. The show tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr. a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life….an astonishing real-life story of being young, in love and in deep, deep trouble. The show runs from January 31 – February 3, 2013 at the Lexington Opera House.
In addition to show tickets, selected youth groups and their chaperones will be treated to a backstage seminar and tour of the Opera House and theatre etiquette class.
“We hope to see more young people benefit each season as the Broadway Buddies program grows,” Franklin said. Donations are still being accepted and additional sponsorships remain available.
